Weekly Crem Unity1 Coffee Machine Cleaning

The following video from Crem shows you weekly cleaning procedures for Unity1 and Unity+1 coffee machines. You may also refer the written instructions below.

Step 1. Prepare for the Purification Cycle

To prepare for this cycle, please do the following:

  • Clean the milk container – Remove the milk container and clean it. You can either pour the milk into another container or dispose of it. If you clean the container by hand, use a soft, dishing brush with warm water and mild dish soap. Dry it using a clean, soft cloth. Refill the container with fresh milk and place it back into the machine.
  • Add cleaning tablets into the brewers – Open the main door lid and unlock the main door. Lift the door up toward you unit it stops moving. Insert Cafiza E-22 cleaning tablet into each brewer.
  • Add a cleaning tablet to the milk container’s cleaning vessel – Open the milk door and slide the milk container onto the milk door. Add one Rinza M61 cleaning tablet into the container’s cleaning vessel. Insert the dip tube into the cleaning vessel. Place the container back into the machine.
  • Place a drip container under the outlet spout – Place an empty 1L container under the outlet spout. Pull down the movable outlet.

Step 2. Start the Purification Cycle

To run the purification cycle, please do the following:

  • Enter “Cleaning” mode – Enter the service menu password provided by the distributor. Once the password is entered, the service menu will display. Select the “Cleaning” icon located near the upper left side of the display.
  • Select “Purification” mode – Under the cleaning menu, select the “Purification” icon. This is the first icon displayed on the screen.
  • Start the purification cycle – You’ll then be prompted to “Press start to start cleaning.” Press the “Start” key near the bottom of the display. You will then be asked, “Are you sure you want to start the purification?” Select “Yes” to confirm.
  • Allow the cycle to run – The purification cycle will take about 17 minutes to complete. When it’s done, place the dip tube back into the milk container. If needed, refill the container with milk and place it back into the machine. 

Step 3. Clean the Steam Traps

To clean the machine’s steam traps, please do the following:

  • Remove the steam traps – Open the instant module door to the right of the outlet spout and display screen. Close the canister outlets by turning them counterclockwise (left). Rotate the steam traps up at about 20 degrees to release them from the mixers.
  • Clean the traps in a sink – Clean the traps by hand using warm water and a soft-bristle brush. Once they’re cleaned, dry them off with a towel before reassembling.
  • Remove and clean the silicone tray – Underneath the steam traps and mixer is a silicone tray. Fold the tray and pull it out. Wash the tray in a sink using warm water. Scrub with a soft-bristle brush if there are stains. Dry it off with a towel before reassembling.
  • Clean the instant module’s interior – Use a dampened cloth to clean the interior of the instant module. When you’re done wiping down the interior, open the canister outlets by turning them clockwise (right).
  • Reassemble the steam traps and silicone tray – Place the dry components back inside the machine.

Step 4. Clean the Outlet Spout

To clean the machine’s outlet spout, please do the following:

  • Remove the spout assembly – Carefully grip the sides of the spout assembly and pull down. If it’s equipped with an instant tube, remove the tube as well.
  • Clean the spout assembly in a sink – Clean the spout assembly by hand using warm water and a soft-bristle brush. Once it’s cleaned, dry it off with a towel before reassembling.
  • Reassemble the spout assembly – Place the dry spout assembly back inside the machine by pushing it upward. 

Step 5. Clean the Water Tank (if applicable)

Some machines are equipped with a water tank. To clean it, please do the following:

  • Remove the tank – The water tank is located the right of the outlet spout and display screen below the instant module door. Pull out the tank carefully.
  • Remove the water filter – Open the tank by removing the top lid. Take out the water filter. When you’re done cleaning the tank, either replace the filter with a new one or place the current filter back in after cleaning it off.
  • Clean the tank in a sink – Clean the water tank and lid by hand using warm water and a soft-bristle brush. Once it’s cleaned, dry it off with a towel before reassembling.
  • Reassemble the tank – Once dried, put the top lid back on the water tank. Place the tank back into the machine.

Step 6. Clean the Drip Tray & Waste Bin

To clean the drip tray and waste bin, please do the following:

  • Remove and empty the waste bin – Raise the adjustable outlet spout up, ensuring it’s fully above the top of the bin. Take the waste bin out of the machine. Empty the remnants inside the bin.
  • Clean the waste bin in a sink – Clean the waste bin by hand using warm water and a soft-bristle brush. Once it’s cleaned, dry it off with a towel before reassembling.
  • Remove the drip tray – Slide out the drip tray located below the outlet spout and waste bin area. Empty the drip tray in a sink before cleaning.
  • Clean the drip tray in a sink – Clean the drip by hand using warm water and a soft-bristle brush. Once it’s cleaned, dry it off with a towel before reassembling.
  • Clean the waste basket area’s interior – Use a dampened cloth to clean the interior of the waste basket area.
  • Reassemble the drip tray and waste basket – Once dried, place both components back into the machine.

Step 7. Test the Machine

To adequately test the machine after cleaning, please do the following:

  • Select the “Return” key on the display – Press the “Return” icon in the upper right corner of the user menu.
  • Make multiple drinks – To see if the machine is functioning properly and your brews are being made correctly, test out a few drinks. Crem recommends testing the coffee and milk, lungo and cappuccino.
