Vulcan Range Shutdown & Start-Up Instructions
Whether it's a temporary kitchen or unforeseen circumstances, certain situations require a Vulcan range or broiler to be shut off for an extended period of time. There are specific procedures you need to follow, so the unit doesn't get damaged and stays in peak condition. Below are quick tips from Vulcan for shutting down and starting up its line of commercial ranges and broilers.

Vulcan Range & Broiler Shutdown Procedures
The following are shutdown instruction for all range and broiler models:
- Step 1. Disconnect the gas supply to the equipment. On electric model, shut off the breaker to the machine.
- Step 2. On gas models only, make sure to open gas valves to bleed gas. Tighten the valves after five minutes. If you have an electric range or broiler, proceed to step 3.
- Step 3. To prevent rusting, add a coat of oil to the cast-iron parts. Also, oil the griddle plate.
- Step 4. Cover the griddle plate using a wax paper. It also helps prevents rusting.
- Step 5. Clean the crumb trays and burner box areas. Make sure to empty all food remnants and thoroughly wipe them down.
- Step 6. Wipe down all surfaces. Clean with a soft cloth dampened in warm water and mild soap. This will help remove any stuck-on food or spills.
- Step 7. If possible cover the with a plastic bag or tarp to help prevent dust, debris and moisture from settling on the surfaces.
Vulcan Range & Broiler Start-Up Procedures
The following are restart instructions apply to all range and broiler models:
- Step 1. For kitchens idle for more than 30 days, set up an appointment with a qualified gas service technician to be onsite during the start-up process. Also, check all gas equipment in the kitchen for gas leaks.
- Step 2. Follow the instructions in your operator's manual for cleaning and restarting the unit.
