Globe Mixer Troubleshooting
Whether it's for baking pastries or making sauces, mixing ingredients is crucial in any commercial kitchen. Globe is one of the best in the foodservice industry at manufacturing mixer. Their line of commercial mixers is durable, and they're easy to operate, so both seasoned chefs and novices can use them with no hassle.
In the rare instance this machine is experiencing an issue, we're here to help. Below are Globe mixer troubleshooting tips to help you in a pinch. This guide is here for diagnosing the problem for equipment operators. More complex issues will need to be identified and repaired by an authorized service technician.
Won't Operate
- Switch is off – Before you look around for other possible causes, double check that the main power switch is on.
- Bad power connection – Double check that the power cord in plugged in or the electrical outlet is working properly.
- Circuit breaker off – The building's circuit breaker could be off. Check the breaker box.
- Bowl guard isn't closed – To put the bowl guard in a closed position, rotate the guard to right until it's fully closed.
- Tripped internal overload (SP models) – On SP 10/20/25 models, press the STOP button. Then, press the RESET button on back of machine. On larger SP models, wait about two minutes before pressing the START button. This will restart the mixer. If the overload still trips, you might need to reduce your batch's size or adjust the recipe.
- Gear isn't engaged (SP models) – The mixer won't work if the speed control lever is positioned between speeds. Switch the gear fully into position.
- Triggered safety fuses and no-volt release switches – Contact an authorized service technician to replace the safety fuses or the magneto-thermal, no-volt release switches.
Stops During Mix Cycle
- Broken belts – If the belts are broken or worn out, contact an authorized technician to replace them.
- Tripped internal overload (SP models) – On SP 10/20/25 models, press the STOP button. Then, press the RESET button on back of machine. On larger SP models, wait about two minutes before pressing the START button. This will restart the mixer. If the overload still trips, you might need to reduce your batch's size or adjust the recipe.
- Speeds changed during mixing (SP80PL only) – Start by returning the speed control lever to the speed model position. Then, restart the mixer.
Spiral Hook Won't Start (GSM Models)
- Emergency button pressed – The emergency button could be pressed down. Reset the button.
- Bowl guard isn't closed – Put the bowl guard in a closed position by rotating the guard to right until it's fully closed.
- Defective bowl guard fault switch – When the fault switch is broken, contact an authorized service technician to replace the bowl guard.
Mixing Takes too Long
- Three-phase mixer is wired incorrectly – If the agitators aren't rotating clockwise around the bowl, have an electrician fix the wiring in the unit.
- Small batch size – If the batch size is too small, this can extend mixing times. Increase the batch size or use a smaller bowl adapter kit.
- Incorrect portion or temperatures – Make sure you're using the proper portions and temperatures in the recipe.
Noisy Mixer
- Mixer not installed correctly – The mixer should be installed on a level surface. Either adjust the surface or move the mixer to remedy the issue. Double check that the rubber feet were installed on the machine.
- Overloaded bowl – If the bowl is loaded with too many ingredients, it can cause the mixer to make loud noises. You might need to reduce the batch size. Check your owner's manual for the capacity chart.
- Broken or worn belts – If the belts are broken or worn out, contact an authorized technician to replace them.
- Clamps not in place or bowl not sealed correctly (SP models) – See if the bowl is seated into the cradle properly or the bowl clamps are locked into place.
- Agitator not fitted (SP models) – Take out the agitator and attach it into the proper position.
- Planetary ring gear needs to be greased (SP models) – There might not be enough grease on the planetary ring gear. Contact an authorized technician to inspect the area for noise. Reapply high-pressure grease to the area.[caption
Broken Dough Spiral Hook, Flat Beater & Whip Wires
- Batch size too large for mixer – You might need to reduce the batch size so the hook or whip wire works properly. Check your owner's manual for the capacity chart.
- Ingredients too cold or large – Wait for the ingredients, such as butter or cream cheese, to be at room temperature before mixing. If it's too big, reduce the chunk size.
- Hand utensil dropped in the bowl (SP models) – If the hand utensil drops into the bowl, stop the mixer and adjust.
Display Not Lit
- No power – There might not be power to the unit. Refer to the troubleshooting tips in the Won't Operate section above.
- Blown internal fuse – If there is a blown internal fuse, contact an authorized technician to remedy the issue.
One of More Gears Not Working
- Broken belts – If the belts are broken or worn out, contact an authorized technician to replace them.
- Damaged gears – If there are broken or damaged gears, contact an authorized technician to replace them. Always stop the machine before shifting gears.
