A Carrier HVAC HH12ZZ165 Limit Switch breaks the circuit at high temperatures and restores function once conditions cool.
The limit switch monitors furnace temperature and opens the circuit at 165F to interrupt operation when the heating and cooling unit begins to overheat, then automatically restores the circuit once temperatures drop to 125F. Its SPST configuration and auto-reset design provide dependable, repeatable thermal protection that supports safe cycling and consistent performance in the HVAC system.
The limit switch may be failing if the furnace shuts down unexpectedly, cycles erratically or does not restart properly after reaching normal operating temperature. Physical signs can include discoloration, heat damage or worn terminals and environmental signs may include excess dust buildup, restricted airflow or repeated overheating conditions around the heating and cooling equipment.
