How to Clean a Delfield 6000XL Condenser Coil
A Delfield 6000XL reach-in refrigerator will keep your foods at the right cool temperature that makes for safe food storage. You want to make sure you are taking care of your refrigerator so that it can work properly and without any malfunctions. For proper refrigerator performance, the condenser fins must be cleaned of dust, dirt and grease on a regular basis. Failing to maintain a clean condenser coil can cause major malfunctions like high temperatures and excessive run times or even compressor failure. Below are instructions on the proper cleaning procedures for your refrigerator condenser coils to keep your unit in top performance.
How often should you be cleaning your condenser coils?
For a Delfield 6000XL refrigerator it is recommended to clean every 90 days or about every 3 months to maintain proper refrigeration performance. However, if you find that your condenser is totally blocked in three months or has more than average build-up, you might need to clean your unit more frequently. Try cleaning the condenser coils every 30 days if you find that your refrigerating unit has a lot of dust build-up more often.
Cleaning Instructions
Check on your condenser coils occasionally to see how much dirt build-up there is. While following the cleaning procedures, make sure to never use a high pressure water wash. Water can damage the electrical components located near or at the condenser coil.
- Step 1. Remove food & cold items – Remove any food and cold items from the unit. Store them in another cooler until finished with cleaning the condenser coils.
- Step 2. Turn off power to the machine – Unplug the refrigerator, making sure to cut all power to the machine before starting any cleaning or maintenance.
- Step 3. Remove the grill panel – Remove the side grill panel from the unit and set it aside. The coil and thermostat is located behind this grill.
- Step 4. Turn off the thermostat – Make sure you turn the thermostat dial to “OFF” before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
- Step 5. Carefully brush the fins – Take a stiff brush and carefully brush downward to remove any build-up from the coil fins.
- Step 6. Vacuum up debris – Use a vacuum cleaner or compressed air to remove the extra dirt particles. This will ensure that you have cleared any dirt from the fins that has built up over time.
- Step 7. Degrease the condenser coils (OPTIONAL) – If you find major grease build-up, spray a degreasing agent and then blow through with compressed air. This will clear up heavy grease that is clinging to your coils.
- Step 8. Reconnect the unit to power – Plug your unit back into the power outlet. It is safe to turn the unit back on and get back to cooling.
- Step 9. Return food & cold items – Once the temperature is at the right level for your food, replace them back into your refrigerator unit.
