How to Clean a Wunder-Bar Soda Gun
The Wunder-Bar soda gun provides a convenient and easy way to dispense beverages quickly in bars, pubs, restaurants and more. To keep the system running smoothly and operating safely, it will need to be regularly cleaned and sanitized. Below are instructions on how to properly clean a Wunder-Bar soda gun for the Mark 4 series of post-mix beverage dispensers.
Supplies Needed:
- Clean towel
- Clean 5-gallon bucket
- Safety goggles
- Rubber gloves
- B-T-F sanitizing cleaning solution
- Flexible plastic bristle brush
Preparing the Cleaning Solution
Prior to beginning the cleaning process on your Wunder-Bar soda gun, you’ll need to pre-mix the B-T-F cleaning solution. This solution is recommended by the manufacturer, and can be used to both clean and sanitize the components to your soda gun.
- Step 1—With rubber gloves on, add two packets of the B-T-F solution powder to the 5-gallon bucket.
- Step 2—Fill the bucket with clean, warm water.
- Step 3—Stir until the solution powder has dissolved completely.
Once the solution has been mixed, you can move on to the cleaning procedures.
Note: Do NOT use bleach to clean your Wunder-Bar soda gun. If you need to use a similar sanitizing cleaning solution to B-T-F, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper dilution.
Cleaning the Sheathing
- Step 1—Sanitize the brush in an appropriately-sized container (like a clean glass or cup) that’s filled with the cleaning solution.
- Step 2—Wrap the flexible brush around the “Heel”—or bottom—of the soda gun, and scrub up and down the length of the sheathing. Scrub up and down about six times.
- Step 3—Repeat Steps 1 and 2, rotating the sheathing ½ turn and scrubbing the other side of the sheathing. Rotate the sheathing ½ turn once more, repeat Steps 1 and 2 and scrub the other side.
- Step 4—Once the scrubbing is done, take the clean towel and dry off the entire length of the sheathing.
Cleaning the Nozzle
- Step 1—Remove the nozzle according to the soda gun model series you have:
- Step 1a—For Series II Models: Firmly grasp the nozzle and begin twisting it back and forth while pulling it away from the handle. If the nozzle is difficult to remove, submerge the nozzle end of the handle in a cup of soda or seltzer water for five minutes, then try to remove the nozzle.
- Step 1b—For Series 2.5 and Series III Models: Firmly grasp the nozzle and twist counterclockwise to unscrew the nozzle from the handle. If the nozzle is difficult to remove, submerge the nozzle end of the handle in a cup of soda or seltzer water for five minutes, then try to remove the nozzle.
- Step 2—Place the nozzle in a cup of cleaning solution and let soak for two minutes. Submerge a clean cleaning brush in the solution as well, then scrub the nozzle and diffuser to remove any and all buildup.
- Step 3—After two minutes, remove the nozzle and diffuser from the cleaning solution and set aside to air dry.
- Step 4—Reinstall the nozzle onto the diffuser.
Cleaning the Post-Mix System
- Step 1—Fill the sanitizer tank or a clean bucket with the cleaning solution, making sure to label all BIB connectors to prevent confusion. Then disconnect all connectors from the Bag-In-Box containers.
- Step 2—Begin the cleaning and sanitizing process as follows:
- Step 2a—Sanitizer Tank: If using the sanitizer tank, attach the BIB connector to the tank’s outlet to wash each syrup circuit line at a time, or to the tank manifold (if equipped) to wash multiple circuit lines at once. Pressurize the tank to 30-40 PSI.
- Step 2b—Bucket: If using a bucket for cleaning, attach the BIB connector(s) to the appropriate cleaning adaptor(s). Place these attached components into the bucket of cleaning solution, making sure they are fully submerged.
- Step 3—Press and hold each flavor button (excluding WATER and SODA) one at a time until all of the syrup has been purged and just cleaning solution is being dispensed. Be sure to do this for all flavor buttons.
- Step 4—Let the cleaning solution remain in the system for at least two minutes before rinsing.
- Step 5—Rinse and fill the sanitizing tank or bucket with warm water (depending on which method used).
- Step 6—Begin the rinsing process as follows:
- Step 6a—Sanitizer Tank: If using the sanitizer tank, attach the BIB connector to the tank’s outlet to rinse each syrup circuit line at a time, or to the tank manifold (if equipped) to rinse multiple circuit lines at once. Pressurize the tank to 30-40 PSI.
- Step 6b—Bucket: If using a bucket, attach the BIB connector(s) to the appropriate cleaning adaptor(s). Place these attached components into the bucket filled with water, making sure they are fully submerged.
- Step 7—Press and hold each flavor button (excluding WATER and SODA) one at a time until all of the syrup has been purged and just clean water is being dispensed. Be sure to do this for all flavor buttons.
- Step 8—Empty the sanitizing tank or bucket and fill with sanitizing solution.
- Step 9—Begin the sanitizing process as follows:
- Step 9a—Sanitizer Tank: If using the sanitizer tank, attach the BIB connector to the tank’s outlet to rinse each syrup circuit line at a time, or to the tank manifold (if equipped) to rinse multiple circuit lines at once. Pressurize the tank to 30-40 PSI.
- Step 9b—Bucket: If using a bucket, attach the BIB connector(s) to the appropriate cleaning adaptor(s). Place these attached components into the bucket filled with water, making sure they are fully submerged.
