How to Clean a Schaerer Coffee Art Plus Machine
The Schaerer Coffee Art Plus is the perfect hot beverage machine to make delicious coffee-based drinks like lattes, cappuccinos and more. Because of its capability to produce many drinks during the work day, it’s important to keep it clean and sanitary. Below are instructions on how to properly clean your Coffee Art Plus unit daily, after each beverage and weekly.
Daily Cleaning
- Step 1—Fill a large steaming pitcher with 16 ounces of water. Mix in one capful of the OEM-recommended Steam Wand Cleaner.
- Step 2—Point the steam wand toward the drip tray and press the #1 Purge/Steam button to purge the wand.
- Step 3—Place the steaming pitcher with the cleaner mixture under the steam wand and press the “LATTE STEAM” button to heat the solution. After the steam wand has automatically shut off, soak for 5 minutes.
- Step 4— As the steam wand soaks, press and hold the cleaning button (water drop icon) until the display reads “cleaning program empty gr. Container.”
- Step 4b—Within 6 seconds of the previous step, immediately remove the grounds bin. Empty the coffee grounds into a trash can, then wash, rinse and sanitize the bin and set aside.
- NOTE: If you don’t remove the grounds bin within 6 seconds of this step, the unit will return to its normal operating mode. If this happens, repeat Step 4.
- Step 5—Remove the metal shield above the grounds bin and set aside.
- Step 6—Use a large cleaning brush to wipe off coffee grounds from the brew unit and surrounding areas into the dip tray.
- Step 7—Place the metal shield back and slide the coffee grounds bin into place.
- Step 8—Wait until the display says “cleaning program insert tablet,” then lift the dome lid located between two bean hoppers. Drop in one of the OEM-recommended cleaning tablets and close the dome lid.
- Step 9—Press the cleaning button (water drop icon) to begin the cleaning cycle. Do not hold the button. This cycle will last around 4½ minutes.
- NOTE: During this time, all beverage selection buttons will be locked during this time.
- Step 10—Once the automatic cleaning cycle is done, empty the pitcher into the drip tray. Wipe down the steam wand with a damp cleaning cloth thick enough to shield your hand from the heat.
- Step 11—Brush the 4 side holes and base of the steam wand tip with a small cleaning brush.
- Step 12—Submerge the steam wand into cold water to rinse and discard the water afterwards. Then wipe down the steam wand with a clean, damp cloth.
- Step 13—Once the wand has been wiped down, point it toward the dip tray and purge once again by pressing the #1 Purge/Steam button.
Cleaning the Steam Wand After Each Use
Be sure to always use a cleaning cloth and/or steam handle grip when cleaning or steaming milk. The wand will be very hot after steaming, so please use caution.
- Step 1—Once steaming has stopped, remove the pitcher and quickly wipe down the steam wand with a clean, damp cloth that’s thick enough to shield your hand from the heat.
- Step 2—Once the wand has been wiped down, point it toward the dip tray and purge once again by pressing the #1 Purge/Steam button.
Weekly Cleaning of Coffee Spout
- Step 1—Pinch the hinges that are located on either side of the coffee spout and pull downward.
- Step 2—Brush the two holes on the coffee spout with a small cleaning brush, then wash, rinse and sanitize. Thoroughly dry the coffee spout with a clean, damp cloth.
- NOTE: Do not wash the coffee spout in the dishwasher.
- Step 3—Place the coffee spout back into its position on the unit.
