Comfortmaker Furnace Troubleshooting
Whether it's the bitter cold in winter or slight chill in fall, homes and offices need the right heating solution to keep their spaces comfy and cozy. Comfortmaker manufactures various furnaces to meet any budget or need, including the Performance, Ion and Quiet Comfort lines. If you ever experience a rare issue from time to time, our Comfortmaker furnace troubleshooting guide helps you with diagnosing the problem on its condensing and non-condensing gas units.
Poor or Improper Airflow
There are two common issues at play if your unit has insufficient airflow. First, check if the air filter is dirty. Clean the filter and surrounding cavity following the instructions in your operator's manual. If you see there is significant debris buildup or damage on the filter, replace it instead of cleaning. If the filter is clean, check the return-air and supply-air grilles for blockages. Remove any obstructions.
If the airflow still is bad after you try correcting poor airflow persists after correcting either of these issues, contact an authorized technician to conduct necessary repairs or remedies.
Condensing Gas Furnace Not Starting or Working
If your standard and ultra-low NOx condensing gas furnace model isn't running, follow the diagnostic procedure below:
Check the…
- Thermostat – Check if the thermostat is at the right temperature setting. It should be above room temperature and in HEAT mode.
- Fuses and circuit breakers – Is the electrical power switch on?
- Manual shutoff valve – If the manual gas supply pipe that leads to the furnace is open, put it in the closed position.
- Gas valve control switch – Before checking, turn off the furnace's electrical power. If the control switch is off, put it in the ON position and conduct the startup instructions in the operator's manual to reset the switch.
- Manual reset rollout switch – You can find the rollout switch in the burner box. The switch turns off the furnace whenever it overheats or is in high-temperature settings. Reset the switch by pushing its button. If it continues to trip, turn the furnace off and contact an authorized technician.
- Vent terminations – Check for any obstructions and blockages.
If the unit won't start or work after you conduct this troubleshooting, contact an authorized technician.
Non-Condensing Gas Furnace Not Starting or Working
If your non-condensing gas furnace model isn't running, follow the step-by-step diagnostics below:
Check the…
- Thermostat – Check if the thermostat is at the right temperature setting. It should be above room temperature and in HEAT mode.
- Electrical supply – See if the electrical power switch ON or if the blower access door is in place. You also should check if either the fuse on the furnace control has blown or a breaker tripped.
- Manual shutoff valve – Look at the manual gas supply pipe leading to the furnace. If it's open, the lever will point in the same direction of the pipe. It should be closed, so move the lever at a right angle to the pipe.
- Gas valve control switch – Before checking, turn off the furnace's electrical power. If it's off, put it in the ON position and conduct the startup instructions in the operator's manual to reset the switch
- Manual reset limit switches – You can find the manual limit switches on the ends of the burner enclosure. The switches turn off the furnace whenever it overheats or is in high-temperature settings. Reset the switches by pushing the buttons. If they continue to trip, turn off the furnace and contact an authorized technician.
If the unit won't start or work after you conduct this troubleshooting, contact an authorized technician.
