Troubleshooting Tips
Below are potential issues and tips to help you make an accurate diagnosis with your fryer.
Ignitor Won’t Light Pilot
- Electrode is dirty or out of position – Either clean the electrode or move it about 3/16 inches within the pilot burner tip.
- Loose ignitor nut or spark wire – An authorized technician will need to repair either issue or replace components.
- Ignitor isn’t making a spark – If the igniter can’t generate a spark, an authorized technician will need to replace the igniter mechanism.
Pilot Light Won’t Stay Lit
- Pilot burner is dirty – Clean the pilot burner and follow the lighting instructions in your operator’s manual.
- Low gas supply pressure – The gas pressure in your facility might be low. Contact your local gas supplier for assistance correcting the issue.
- Pilot flame is too small – A small pilot flame won’t adequately heat the thermocouple. Adjust the pilot valve on the gas control valve to increase the flame size. Turning the valve adjustment screw twice counterclockwise should accomplish this.
- Pilot flame is wavering – A wavering flame is blown by a draft. To avoid it, try to block or redirect the draft away from the pilot.
- Faulty thermocouple – If a thermocouple isn’t putting out the correct voltage, it could affect the pilot. Contact an authorized technician to test and repair.
- Faulty high-limit thermostat – A faulty high-limit thermostat can shut off the gas. Contact an authorized technician to test and repair.
- Faulty gas control valve – The gas control valve will need to be replaced by an authorized technician.
Pilot Light Goes Out Repeatedly
- Too much airflow by the pilot burner assembly – Too much airflow prevents the pilot flame from touching the thermocouple. To avoid it, try to block or redirect the draft away from the pilot.
- Loose thermocouple or high-limit thermostat connection – Check if the thermocouple or high-limit thermostat connection is loose on the gas control valve. If either is loose, tighten. If there is damage, contact an authorized technician to check and repair.
- Low gas supply pressure – The gas pressure in your facility might be low. Contact your local gas supplier for assistance correcting the issue.
- Faulty high-limit thermostat – A faulty high-limit thermostat can shut off the gas. Contact an authorized technician to test and repair.
Burner Won’t Ignite
- Gas control valve knob is in the OFF or PILOT position – Perform the lighting procedure in the operator’s manual. Then, turn the gas control valve knob to ON to light the main burners. If the burners don’t light, an authorized technician will need to repair or replace the control valve.
- Thermostat control set too low – If the thermostat is set below the liquid shortening temperature, increase the thermostat setting until the burners light. If this is higher than the desired temperature, reset the thermostat your desired setting and let the shortening cool accordingly.
- Low gas supply pressure – The gas pressure in your facility might be low. Contact your local gas supplier for assistance correcting the issue.
- Faulty gas control valve – The gas control valve will need to be replaced by an authorized technician.
Burner Won’t Stop
- Faulty thermostat – Check the thermostat by turning the control knob to OFF. If the burners are still burning, they’re broken. Contact an authorized technician to replace the burners.
- Faulty gas control valve – The gas control valve will need to be replaced by an authorized technician.
Oil or Shortening is Too Cold
- Thermostat needs calibration – If the thermostat reading is off by 10 degrees Fahrenheit, see the “Anets Fryer Thermostat Testing & Calibration” procedures below.
- Thermostat knob is loose – The thermostat knob will need to be fastened. Follow the procedure outlined in the “Anets Fryer Thermostat Testing & Calibration” below.
- Low gas supply pressure – The gas pressure in your facility might be low. Contact your local gas supplier for assistance correcting the issue.
- Low gas manifold pressure – Contact an authorized technician to measure and adjust the manifold gas pressure.
Anets Fryer Thermostat Testing & Calibration
If the temperature is off by 10 degrees Fahrenheit, check if the fryer’s thermostat needs calibration. Follow the specific instructions below from Anets.
Thermostat Testing Instructions
- Step 1. Stir the shortening to mix the hot shortening with some from the cool zone. Let it to sit for about 5 minutes.
- Step 2. Turn the thermostat knob until it clicks on. This triggers the main burners to turn on and causes the main burners to flame. Note the setting where this occurs.
- Step 3. Turn the thermostat knob until it clicks off. This causes the main burners to go out. Note the setting where this occurs.
- Step 4. Repeat steps 2-3 at least three times to verify the temperature “click points” and if the shortening temperature has stabilized.
- Step 5. Use a separate, accurate thermometer to check the shortening temperature. Insert the thermometer about four inches into the shortening for a proper reading. If the measured temperature and thermostat setting is 10 degrees Fahrenheit or less, the thermostat can be recalibrated in the succeeding steps.
Thermostat Calibration Instructions
- Step 1. Remove the cap on the thermostat control knob. Unfasten the center brass hex nut portion of the knob.
- Step 2. Turn the pointer portion of the knob to the measured temperature value of the thermostat setting.
- Step 3. Tighten the brass hex nut to lock the adjustment. Place the cap back on the knob.
