But in the event an issue arises with your Amana unit, it’s important to know how to identify these issues, so you can take the necessary steps and precautions before calling an authorized service technician.  

Here are the troubleshooting tips for your Amana microwave oven. This guide will cover both the RC Series and RM Series of microwaves.

Amana RC Series Microwave Troubleshooting

Possible Causes

Microwave doesn’t operate

  • Make sure the microwave is plugged in.
  • Have microwave checked to make sure it’s on a grounded/polarized circuit.
  • Check the circuit breaker or fuse.

Microwave operates intermittently

Check the air filter and discharge areas for obstructions.

Microwave isn’t accepting entries when pad is pressed

  • Make sure the microwave is plugged in and on.
  • Open and close the door, then press the pad again.

Microwave is malfunctioning or displaying a “CALL SERVICE” or an “ERROR” message with a number

This is the microwave’s self-diagnostic system indicating an issue. When activated, follow these steps:

  • Unplug the microwave, wait a minute, and then plug it back in.
  • If the error message returns, the problem persists. Call the number provided.

Microwave works but doesn’t heat the food

Oven isn’t operating properly. Test this by heating a cup of water at 100% power.

“HOT” displays

The magnetron is overheated and will automatically engage the cooling fan. When properly cooled down, it will return to “READY” mode.

“CALL SERVICE” after cooking cycle

Microwave isn’t operating at full power. Contact service technician.

1. Power cord isn’t plugged in
2. Blown fuse or circuit breaker is open
3. Outlet is malfunctioning
4. Door isn’t closed

1. Plug in unit
2. Replace the fuse/have repaired, or reset the breaker
3. Test the outlet with other electrical appliances and have inspected if problem persists
4. Close the door
