Scotsman Ice SCN60 Cleaning & Descaling
If you love your Scotsman Ice SCN60, then make sure to perform routine cleaning and descaling on it to prevent build-up and keep it running smoothly. We have provided a step-by-step guide below to help you clean and descale your ice machine.
Prep Instructions
- Step 1. Turning off the machine - Press and release the on/off button. The green light will blink for a minute and then the unit will shut off.
- Step 2. Remove ice from bin - Scoop out and discard any ice that is still in the machine. Remove the ice scoop and fold the metal bar to the bin wall.
- Step 3. Remove the back panel - Unscrew the upper right and left screws on the back panel. Pull the panel down and out to remove it.
- Step 4. Remove the reservoir cover - Push the tab on the reservoir cover, lift and remove it.
- Step 5. Turn off the water - Push the blue float valve on/off lever up to shut off the water.
- Step 6. Drain the system - Pull the drain plug out and allow the reservoir and evaporator to drain. Once all the water is drained, put the plug back in.
Descaling Instructions
- Step 1. Add descaling solution - Use either 8 oz of premixed Scotsman Clear 1 Scale Remover or a solution of Clear 1 with water: 2.5 ounces of Clear 1 with 1 quart (32 oz) of warm water. Use the squirt bottle to add about 8 oz to the reservoir or until it is halfway full.
- NOTE: Take care not to spill any scale remover on any skin or nearby surface. Immediately wipe any spill with baking soda and water and flush skin with water.
- Step 2. Start the cleaning cycle - Press and hold both the On/Off button and the Clean-Reset button for 5 seconds. The ‘Time to Clean’ light will blink on and off to indicate the clean cycle has started. The motor will operate for 10 minutes, then the compressor will start for another 5-8 minutes. The ‘Time to Clean’ light will light up until the clean cycle is complete.
- Step 3. Add more solution - Once the machine starts to make ice again, continuously add scale remover solution to the reservoir to keep it about half full.
- Step 4. Move float lever - After adding all 16 oz of descaling solution to the reservoir, move the float lever down to the ‘On’ position. After 40 minutes the ice machine and control panel will shut off.
- Step 5. Drain the system - Pull the drain plug out and allow the reservoir to drain again, then replug it back in.
- Step 6. Reinstall the cover and panels - Return the reservoir cover back into place, and then install the back panel with the original screws. Snap it back into pace by pressing on the bottom of the panel.
- Step 7. Clean the liner - Using any leftover solution and hot water, scrub any scale from the bin liner. Rinse the bin with hot water and then sanitize.
- Step 8. Restart the ice making - Push and release the ‘On/Off’ button to restart the ice making.
