These machines immediately deliver direct heat to what you're cooking, letting you whip up everything from juicy burgers to chicken in no time. In the rare situation this unit experiences an issue, follow our Nieco broiler troubleshooting tips to get it back up and running.
These diagnostic tips are relevant on JF63, JF64, JF93, JF94 and JF143 BroilVection™ models.
No Power
If the broiler is switched on but there is no power, check for the following:
- Unplugged – See if the unit's power cord is unplugged from the wall outlet.
- Ventilation hood is off – Make sure the ventilation hood is turned on.
- Circuit breaker tripped – Reset the circuit breaker if it's tripped.
Burners Won't Turn on or Light
If the broiler has power but the burners won't turn on, look for the possible issues below:
- Ventilation hood is off – Make sure the ventilation hood is turned on.
- Gas valve is off – If the unit has a manual gas valve, make sure it's plugged in correctly.
- Incorrectly installed burners – Check if the burners are installed properly. Refer to the owner's manual for correct installation instructions.
- Dirty burners – If there is a buildup of grease and food remnants on the burners, this can prevent them from turning on. Clean and dry them carefully.
- Faulty sensor wire connection – See if the wire connection for the flame sensor is damaged or disconnected. Reconnect it or have it replaced by an authorized technician.
Conveyor Belt Won't Turn
If the power is on and the broiler is lit but the conveyor belt isn't turning, check for these potential problems:
- Jammed belt – See if any food or object is jammed in the conveyor belt. Turn the machine off and remove the obstruction.
- Incorrectly installed stripper blade – The broiler's stripper blade might not have been installed properly. Refer to the owner's manual for correct installation instructions.
- Incorrectly installed flame arrestors – The flame arrestors might not have been installed the right way. Refer to the owner's manual for correct installation procedure.
Feeder Jams or Feeder Belt Won't Move
If the feed jams or the feeder belt isn't moving, check for the following:
- Food is frozen together – When burgers or food patties are frozen together, it can cause a jam. Make sure the product is thawed or not frozen together before broiling.
- Drive pin won't engage – See if the drive pin is engaged. If not, it might have to be replaced by an authorized service technician.
- Incorrectly assembled feeder – The feeder might not have been assembled correctly. Refer to the owner's manual for correct assembly.
Hot Surface Ignitor Won't Heat
If the hot surface ignitor isn't heating, it typically is caused by loose wire connection. With the broiler off, reconnect the wiring to the hot surface ignitor. If you notice any damage to the wiring, have it replaced by an authorized service technician.
Blinking Red Light on Control Box
If the red light is blinking on the left control box, check for these possible problems:
- Burners won't light – The light will blink if the burners won't turn on. Check for the issues stated above in "Burners Won't Turn on or Light."
- Ignition needs to be reset – Reset the ignition by turning the power off and on again.
Food Sticks to Slide or Stripper Blade
If burgers or other food stick to the slide or stripper blade consistently, look for the following:
- Dirty slide and blade – Clean the dirty slide or stripper blade thoroughly following the instructions in the owner's manual. This will keep product from sticking.
- Undercooked food– See if the cookout temperature for your food is correct. Undercooking can cause product to stick.
Food Undercooks or Overcooks
If the food in the broiler is undercooking or overcooking, check for the possible problems below:
- Improper conveyor speed – Make sure the conveyor speed is at the proper setting. Check the owner's manual for setting adjustment.
- Dirty burners and orifices – If there is a buildup of grease and food remnants on the burners and orifices, this can affect the cooking process. Clean both the burners and orifices following the instructions in the owner's manual.
Excessive Flaming
If there is too much flaming or flare up in the broiler, see if these issues are present:
- Dirty catalyst – Check if the broiler's catalyst is dirty. If so, clean it thoroughly following the instructions in the owner's manual or have an authorized technician conduct a thorough cleaning.
- Overcooked food – See if the cookout temperature for your food is correct. Overcooking can cause excessive flaming.
- Faulty hood – If the hood is broken or damaged, this can cause the broiler to flame excessively.
