MagiKitch'n Grill & Griddle Troubleshooting
Food made off a hot grill or griddle can take any ordinary menu to the next level. Many commercial kitchens use MagiKitch’n grills to make juicy, tender food that maintains its natural flavor. In the rare case your unit isn’t working properly, we have some quick MagiKitch’n grill troubleshooting tips to assist you.
This guide outlines information for gas Focus Series units and electric MKE Series models.
Excessive Smoke
- Heat is too high – Set the grill to a lower temperature.
- Moisture on product – Make sure food doesn’t have excessive moisture or frost. This causes steam to build up when cooking.
Food Sticks to Surface or Burns on Edges
- Heat is too high – Set the grill to a lower temperature.
- Dirty or un-seasoned surface – A dirty or un-seasoned surface can cause the food to stick and burn on the edges. Make sure to clean and season the griddle surface regularly.
- Short cooking times – The product might not be done cooking. Check if the cooking time needs to be increased.
Food Undercooked in Center
- Heat is too high – This can accelerate cooking on the outer edges but the center can be underdone. Set the grill to a lower temperature.
- Expired product – Double check the food label for an expiration date. If it’s expired, this can cause issues with grilling.
Food is Too Greasy
- Product stored incorrectly – If you didn’t store your food properly, this can cause grease or oil to build up on the surface. Check the food’s labeling for correct storage.
- Too much grease added to the surface – You might have added too much grease or oil while grilling.
- Heat is too low – Set the grill to a higher temperature.
Surface is Greasy
- Too much grease added to the surface – You might have added too much grease or oil while grilling.
- Heat is too high – Set the grill to a lower temperature.
- Dirty or un-seasoned surface – A dirty or un-seasoned surface can cause grease to build up on the surface. Make sure to clean and season the griddle surface regularly.
Pilot Won’t Light or “Pilot Ready” Light Won’t Illuminate
- Gas supply is off – See if the manual gas valve or supply is turned off or disconnected from the unit. Turn or reconnect the gas supply.
- Low gas pressure – The gas pressure in your facility might be low. Contact your local gas company to remedy the situation.
- Grill is unplugged – If the power cord is unplugged, plug it back in.
- Power switch is off or broken – Turn the power switch If it’s broken, contact an authorized technician to repair the issue.
- Broken ignition module or flame sense circuit – Contact an authorized technician to check or repair the ignition module and flame sense circuit.
- Broken lamp – See if the grill has a broken lamp or lamp switch. These will need to be repaired or replaced by an authorized technician.
Grill Won’t Heat Up or Power Switch Won’t Illuminate
- Broken ignition module or flame sense circuit – Contact an authorized technician to check or repair the ignition module and flame sense circuit.
- Broken lamp – See if the grill has a broken lamp or lamp switch. These will need to be repaired or replaced by an authorized technician.
- Thermostats are off – Turn the grill’s thermostats back on if they’re off. If the thermostats are on but not working properly, contact an authorized technician to check them.
- Broken gas valve or thermostat – Contact an authorized technician to check the gas valve or thermostat and remedy the issue.
- Thermostats need calibration – Calibrate the thermostats by following procedures in the operator’s manual, or contact an authorized technician for assistance.
Grill Stays Hot or Overheats

Surface Temperature is Inconsistent
