How to Clean a Curtis Coffee Maker
Whether it's kicking off the day or at the end of a meal, coffee is always in demand at any restaurant, café or commercial establishment. Curtis makes a wide selection of durable commercial brewing equipment to make delicious coffee. A clean unit not only keep coffee tasting fresh, but it also helps increase the life of the machine. Here are the instructions for cleaning a Curtis coffee maker.
Cleaning Procedures by Model:
Cleaning Cafe Pourover Brewers
The following cleaning instructions should be done daily on CAFE 1DB, 2DB, 3DB, AP and 0PP models.
- Step 1. Turn off the brewer – Turn off the coffee maker and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Step 2. Let the machine cool – Do not touch any hot surfaces. Give the brewer and warmer plates time to cool down.
- Step 3. Wipe down the exterior – Use a damp cloth to wipe down any debris or spills from the exterior surfaces. Do not use cleaners, especially liquid bleach, powders or substances with chlorine. These have corrosive qualities that can damage stainless steel.
- Step 4. Clean the sprayhead area – Slide the brew cone out of the coffee maker. Then, use a damp cloth to thoroughly wipe down the sprayhead area.
- Step 5. Wash the brew cone and basket – Empty out the brew cone of any leftover remnants. Wash both the brew cone and wire brew basket in a sink with a soft-bristle brush and mild detergent. These parts also can be cleaned in a dishwasher. Reinstall when dry.
- Step 6. Clean the decanters – Wash the decanters in a sink with warm water and mild detergent. If there are mineral deposits, soak them in vinegar.
- Step 7. Dry the exterior – Now that the cleaning process is complete, wipe down the exterior surfaces with a dry cloth. This helps prevent spotting. If you want to coat the surfaces, use a stainless steel polish after drying.
Cleaning Airpot Brewers
The following cleaning instructions should be done daily on D1000GT and D500GT models.
Brewer Procedures
- Step 1. Turn off the machine – Turn the button off on the front control panel and unplug the power cord. Let the machine cool before proceeding.
- Step 2. Wipe down the exterior – Use a damp cloth to wipe down any debris or spills from the exterior surfaces. Do not use cleaners containing harsh powders or chlorine. These can damage stainless steel.
- Step 3. Clean the sprayhead area – Slide the brew cone out of the coffee maker. Then, thoroughly wipe down the sprayhead area using a damp cloth and mild detergent.
- Step 4. Wash the brew cone and basket – Empty out the brew cone of any leftover remnants. Wash both the brew cone and wire brew basket in a sink with a soft-bristle brush and mild detergent. These parts also can be cleaned in a dishwasher. Reinstall when dry.
Airpot Procedures
- Step 1. Follow brewer cleaning procedures – Before you clean the airpots, clean the brewer following the steps outlined above.
- Step 2. Wash the airpots – Clean the airpots with warm water and mild detergent. Scrub the interior with a non-abrasive sponge. Do not immerse the airpots in water or place them in a dishwaser.
- Step 3. Rinse the interior and exterior – Rinse both the interior and exterior of the airpots thoroughly in hot water. Do not immerse them in water.
Cleaning Gemini Satellite Brewers
The following cleaning instructions should be done daily on Gemini series models.
Brewer Procedures
- Step 1. Turn off the brewer – Turn off the brewer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Allow the machine to cool down before proceeding.
- Step 2. Wipe down the exterior – Use a moist cloth to wipe down any debris or spills from the exterior surfaces. Do not use cleaners with liquid bleaches, powders or chlorine. These have corrosive qualities that can damage stainless steel.
- Step 3. Clean the sprayhead area – Slide the brew cone out of the coffee maker. Use a moist cloth to thoroughly wipe down the sprayhead area.
- Step 4. Wash the brew cone – Empty out the brew cone of any leftover remnants. Rinse it in a sink with warm water and mild detergent. Let it air dry or use a towel to dry.
- Step 5. Drain and wash the drip tray – Remove the drip tray and drain it out. Then, wash the tray in a sink with warm water and mild detergent. Let it air dry or use a towel to dry.
- Step 6. Dry the exterior – Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a dry cloth to prevent spotting. If you want to coat the surfaces, use a stainless steel polish after drying.
Satellite Server Procedures
- Step 1. Clean the satellite lid – Remove the lid and clean it at the funnel area in a sink with warm water. Use mild detergent and a spiral brush. Rinse the lid thoroughly to remove the cleaning solution.
- Step 2. Remove the handle/bonnet assembly – Unscrew the handle/bonnet assembly to remove it from the dispensing faucet.
- Step 3. Check the silicon seat cup – Pull the seat cup from the faucet stem and check for any wear, cracks or hardening. If there is noticeable damage, replace it.
- Step 4. Clean the handle/bonnet assembly – Clean the disassembled parts in a sink with warm water and mild detergent.
- Step 5. Reinstall the handle/bonnet assembly – Dry the assembly with a towel and reinstall it. Hand-tighten it on the faucet.
- Step 6. Remove and clean the gauge glass tube – Unscrew the gauge glass cap and clean it in a sink with warm water and mild detergent. Make sure to clean the two washers that were removed as well. Rinse carefully with water. Do not immerse the tube and washers in water.
- Step 7. Dry and reinstall the gauge glass tube – Dry the gauge glass tube with a towel and reinstall it onto the satellite.
- Step 8. Wash the satellite interior – Clean the interior in a sink with warm water and mild detergent. This helps remove coffee residue. Rinse carefully with warm water.
Deliming the Brewers
The heating tank on Curtis coffee makers should be delimed every six months or more frequently in places with hard water. This procedure must be done by an authorized service agent.
